Before we can understand Medical Qìgōng, we need a clear sense of what Qì actually is — not the mystical idea, but the modern, grounded explanation.
Your body is made of tissues that conduct electricity, which means you live inside a constantly moving electromagnetic field. This field is created by your own biology — your breath, digestion, and cellular activity generate energy that circulates throughout your body like an internal current.
At the same time, your energy is always interacting with the world around you: the earth’s electromagnetic field, weather patterns, and the environments you move through. All of this shapes how balanced, tired, clear, or overwhelmed you feel.
This is Qì — the natural, electrical, biological energy that keeps you alive, focused, and emotionally steady.
When you understand Qì this way, Medical Qìgōng becomes much more accessible: it’s simply the art of learning how to work with your own energy so your system can function with more strength, ease, and clarity.
What “Qìgōng” Means

Qìgōng is the skillful cultivation of the body’s vital energy through breath, movement, intention, and awareness.
It trains the body, mind, and energetic system to work together so you can regulate your emotions, strengthen your health, and connect more deeply with your inner intelligence.
It is both:

What Is Medical Qìgōng?
As a Doctor of Medical Qìgōng (DMQ, China) and a Physician of Chinese Medicine & Acupuncture (MTOM, L.Ac.), I use Medical Qìgōng as both a therapeutic system and a practical method for helping your body regulate and restore itself.
Medical Qìgōng is the healing branch of Qìgōng. It uses breath, gentle movement, and focused intention to guide your internal energy (Qì) through the body’s natural energetic pathways. When Qì circulates clearly, your physical, emotional, and mental systems begin to function with more strength and ease.
Although these practices are ancient, modern research helps explain why they work. The body is electrically conductive. Every breath and biochemical process generates electromagnetic energy, and Medical Qìgōng trains how that energy circulates—helping regulate patterns of depletion, overwhelm, stagnation, or imbalance.
Medical Qìgōng is based on a few essential principles:

A formula for high stress or emotional overwhelm will not be the same as a formula for digestive issues, Qì depletion, or sleep disturbances.
