Listening Behind the Mind: How Intuition Speaks

By Maria Furlano | The Art of Tuning In® Podcast — Episode 106

Listening Behind the Mind: How Intuition Speaks

Your intuition isn’t something mysterious that lives in your head—it’s the language of your entire energy system. In this episode, we explore how intuition actually speaks through the body, why relaxation awakens intuitive clarity, and how you can stay connected to your inner knowing throughout the day. If you’ve ever felt clear during meditation but scattered afterward, this is for you. Let’s talk about energy, embodiment, and learning to listen behind the mind.

Intuition Is a Full-Body Experience

Intuition isn’t something that happens “up in your head.”
It’s not just a brain process—it’s a full-body connection.

Some people see intuitively, others hear, feel, or simply know. Often, that knowing is a full-body experience—it includes sensing, smelling, tasting, or feeling all at once. Intuition is your entire energy system receiving information.

Why Relaxation Awakens Intuition

If you want to use your intuition consistently, learning to relax your mind and body is key.
When we’re relaxed, our intuitive pathways open. When we’re tense, distracted, or fearful, those same pathways begin to close.

In times of worry, fear, or overwhelm, the brain speeds up—it moves into a survival pattern, focused on protection and problem-solving. That’s useful when you’re in danger, but it quiets the right-brain, intuitive side of you.

Yet intuition itself can keep you just as safe—often safer—because it connects you to a deeper inner knowing of what to do next.

Bringing Intuition into Daily Life

Many people tell me, “I feel amazing when I’m meditating or doing Qigong, but once I return to my day, that calm alignment fades.”

This is the bridge we want to build:
How do you carry that intuitive connection with you throughout the day—while you work, talk with others, or handle practical tasks?

When you’re doing logical, analytical work, your intuitive awareness naturally quiets. That’s okay. We need both sides of the brain online. But if logic dominates all the time, your intuitive muscle weakens from lack of use.

Remember: your whole body is an antenna—constantly radiating and receiving energy. The question is whether you’re tuned in to notice what it’s picking up.

Expanded vs. Contracted Energy States

When you meditate, move through Qigong, or spend time in nature, your energy field expands.
You feel safe, open, and relaxed—and intuitive information flows easily.

When you worry, scroll social media, or absorb fearful news, your energy contracts.
Your system focuses on survival, narrowing your awareness into tunnel vision. That’s fine for real emergencies—but daily life rarely requires that kind of contraction.

Expanding again means feeling safe enough to open—to yourself, to nature, and to higher guidance. That’s why limiting fear-based information and cultivating calm environments makes such a difference for sensitive people.

The Inner Turn: Listening Within

Your attention follows your focus.
If your attention is always pulled outward—to news, screens, or others’ energy—you’ll miss the quiet voice of your intuition.

To reconnect, turn inward.
Breathe. Anchor your energy. Root yourself.
Allow your awareness to settle into your body.

Intuition lives in embodiment—when your energy is grounded into the Earth and expanded into the Universe at the same time. That’s when your inner antenna reaches farther and receives more.

Why It’s Easier to Read for Others

Many intuitive people find it easier to receive messages for others than for themselves.
That’s because it’s easier to relax and stay neutral about someone else’s energy. When you tune into your own life, emotion and attachment can tighten your field.

The key is learning to bring that same relaxed focus inward—creating the internal safety that allows your energy to stay open while listening for your own guidance.

Intention Directs Energy

Energy follows thought.
Your mind directs Qi in your body. What you think about, your energy flows toward—both internally and externally.

That means you can choose what frequencies to align with.
Just as you choose friends who uplift and support you, you can choose to tune into energies that are loving, clear, and aligned with your highest good.

When you focus your intention on elevated, compassionate frequencies, your intuition naturally strengthens and becomes more reliable.

Creating an Intuitive Environment

Bring your intuitive awareness into everything you do—even the mundane.

If you’re doing your taxes or tackling a logical project, set your space.
Light a candle. Use aromatherapy. Play calming music. Clear and fill the room with energy that supports you.

You’re merging your intuitive and logical sides—creating harmony between focus and flow.

Sensitive Souls Need More Breaks

If you’re sensitive and intuitive, your system processes more information than most people.
That means you need more frequent breaks to recalibrate your energy.

Pause often.
Breathe.
Step outside.
Let your body and nervous system expand again before you return to focused work.

This expansion and contraction is natural—just like breathing in and out. It keeps your energy fluid and prevents stagnation or burnout.

The Rhythmic Nature of Energy

Your energy—like your breath, like your blood pressure—is designed to move.
It’s always expanding and drawing in. It’s only a problem when we get stuck in one extreme: permanently contracted or permanently expanded.

Flow is the goal.
Fluidity keeps your intuition active and your body at ease.

Living Intuitively in a Chaotic World

Your intuitive gifts are not luxuries—they’re essential tools for navigating today’s world.
They keep you aligned, supported, and empowered.

So don’t shy away from them.
Instead, cultivate your rhythm—expanding and contracting as life asks, without losing your center.

Reflect and Reconnect

Notice your own rhythm:

  • Do you feel more often contracted or expanded?

  • How does your energy shift throughout the day?

  • Are you taking moments to breathe, ground, and listen behind your mind?

Your intuition is a gift—one that deserves space, support, and practice.
When you honor its rhythm, life becomes more fluid, peaceful, and guided from within.
